PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lincoln Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lincoln Hawk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kyle Wright!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Steve Erwin and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wright tries to bum rush Hawk with a series of wild strikes but Hawk uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Wright misses with a two punch combination.

Hawk feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hawk trying to control the position from guard on top but Wright is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wright is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hawk wants to control from the top but Wright keeps moving.
Wright really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hawk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wright wants to stand and escape but Hawk is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Lincoln Hawk just wasn't active enough.
Hawk shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wright as he jumps to the side.
Wright jabs at Hawk's body.
Wright jabs Hawk right on the nose. Hawk blinks but takes it well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hawk dives in and scores a takedown into Wright's guard.
Hawk controls from within his opponent's guard.
Wright is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hawk is controlling him.

Hawk drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hawk jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hawk drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wright dives on top into guard.
Wright must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hawk tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hawk is trying to control the position but Wright postures up.
Hawk utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wright is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Wright tries to free his leg and advance position but Hawk is retaining full guard.

Hawk working for a triangle but Wright defends it easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wright looking to pass the guard.
Hawk controls Wright momentarily but Wright frees himself.
Wright wants to control from the top but Hawk keeps moving.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hawk holds on and takes a little breather.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Kyle Wright was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hawk moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A jab lands there for Hawk.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hawk throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wright's waist but Wright gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hawk off to one side.
Hawk tries for a takedown but Wright sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lincoln Hawk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hawk shoots in but no luck this time.
Hawk is breathing heavily.
Wright doesn't manage to clinch there - Hawk circles away.
Hawk shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wright sprawls well. Wright wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hawk gets slowly back to his feet.

Wright lands a left and a right that send Hawk crashing to the mat, dazed. Wright thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Lincoln Hawk has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wright lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hawk circles away quickly and effectively.
Hawk uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wright.
Hawk fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wright stalks Hawk and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Hawk's face. Hawk staggers backwards, shaken.
Wright misses with a series of wild punches.
Some wild striking there from Wright.
Wright doesn't manage to clinch there - Hawk circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hawk fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The fighters circle, before Wright throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Hawk's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Wright lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:09 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Kyle Wright!
