The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithson looks to throw a body kick
and Frankopan counters by moving into the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Smithson throws an elbow but misses.
Frankopan has picked Smithson up - he's going for a ride! Frankopan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Smithson is trying to stand up here but Frankopan is controlling him well.
Smithson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Frankopan is working away from the top position though.
Smithson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Smithson.
Smithson trying to keep a closed guard but Frankopan is proving a slippery customer.
Smithson is adopting a defensive guard.
Frankopan content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Smithson has locked up a guillotine! Smithson's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Frankopan is holding on here and Smithson must be using up a lot of energy. Frankopan has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Smithson gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
