PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andre Wilkon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Langham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Chris Langham was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andre Wilkon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chris Langham!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Langham throws a right hand that misses
and Wilkon counters with a straight right hand.
Langham darts in trying to clinch

and Wilkon counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Langham!
Wilkon prevents Langham from getting the reversal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wilkon looking to control but Langham is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wilkon is really struggling to control Langham but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Langham is looking to get to half guard.
Wilkon trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Wilkon working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Wilkon wants to control the pace but Langham is squirming around nicely.

BOOM! Wilkon connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Wilkon is working for a guillotine from mount but Langham frees his head quite easily.

Wilkon is landing with some decent strikes but Langham is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Wilkon won't let Langham get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Wilkon throwing strikes here but Langham is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Wilkon cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Wilkon is landing with some decent strikes but Langham is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Wilkon jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Langham manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Langham manages to get back to half guard.

Langham looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Wilkon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Langham keeps working.

Langham looking for submissions off his back.
Langham looks gassed!
Wilkon is looking to take a break and control but Langham is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Langham is defending against the submission attempts here by Wilkon.
Langham is looking to escape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Wilkon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Langham wants to get back to his feet.
Langham makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Langham.
Wilkon wants to stand but Langham has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Wilkon trying to control the position from guard on top but Langham is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Wilkon dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Langham lands with a slapping head kick.
Langham tries to clinch up

and Wilkon counters by clinching up.
Langham is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Wilkon is keeping busy.
Wilkon tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Langham smiles and moves away.
Langham shoots in looking for a takedown. Wilkon tries to sprawl out of it but Langham keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Wilkon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Wilkon has managed to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wilkon throws a knee to the head but misses.
Wilkon tries to circle away but Langham has him pinned against the cage.
Langham keeps control of Wilkon as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Wilkon goes for a takedown in the clinch but Langham prevents it.
Wilkon prevents Langham from breaking the clinch.
Wilkon jumps guard but Langham stands there with Wilkon around his waist. Wilkon gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andre Wilkon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Wilkon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Wilkon lands a lovely overhand right.

Wilkon has Langham up against the cage in a clinch.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Wilkon closes the distance and clinches.
Wilkon tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Langham just stands there and leans against the cage.
Wilkon can't break the clinch.
Wilkon is struggling to control the position.
Langham is working for takedown but Wilkon is calmly controlling the position for now.
Langham fails to pull guard.
Wilkon gets underhooks to prevent Langham's takedown attempt.
Langham is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wilkon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Wilkon with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Langham wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Langham is trying to break the clinch but Wilkon has him pressed against the cage.
Wilkon wants a takedown.

Wilkon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wilkon misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wilkon looks to land a body kick but Langham moved away.

Langham feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Langham drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Wilkon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Langham has Wilkon in his guard.

Langham keeping moving, preventing Wilkon from controlling successfully.
Langham is trying to control the position but Wilkon postures up.
Wilkon trying to control the position from guard on top but Langham is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Langham keeping full guard, as Wilkon tries to pass.
Langham preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Langham utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wilkon looking to sit in guard and control but Langham gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Wilkon trying to keep a closed guard but Langham is proving a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Andre Wilkon will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Langham tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Wilkon counters by moving into the clinch.
Langham has Wilkon pressed against the cage, preventing Wilkon from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Wilkon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Wilkon circles away from the clinch attempt.
Langham shoots in for a takedown but Wilkon shows good takedown defense.
Langham lands a head kick!
Wilkon throws a sloppy head kick

and Langham counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wilkon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Langham is controlling him.

Langham stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wilkon throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Langham.

Wilkon moves into range and clinches up with Langham.
Langham controlling the action here for a moment.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Wilkon.
Wilkon crunches a lovely knee into Langham's ribcage.
Wilkon is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Langham pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Langham pulls guard successfully.
Wilkon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Langham is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Wilkon wants to get back to full guard.
Wilkon wants to control but Langham is keeping busy.

Langham is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Langham is looking for submissions but instead, Wilkon has regained full guard.
Wilkon is trying to keep Langham in close.
Langham trying to control the position from guard on top but Wilkon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Langham gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Wilkon drives through and clinches with Langham against the cage.

Wilkon breaks from the clinch.
Andre Wilkon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Langham thows a left - swing and a miss!
Langham tries to clinch up.
Wilkon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Langham as he jumps to the side.

Wilkon rushes Langham and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Wilkon lands with a light punch inside.
Wilkon wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Langham has him pressed against the cage.
Langham misses with a knee strike.
Wilkon will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Langham up against the cage.
Wilkon gets underhooks to prevent Langham's takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Langham wants a takedown but no success here.
Andre Wilkon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Langham.

Wilkon tightens his grip and picks Langham up, before dumping him to the ground. Langham manages to land in guard.
Wilkon wants to stand but Langham has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Langham looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Langham has his foot on Wilkon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wilkon works his way back into a safe position though.
Wilkon wants to control from the top but Langham keeps moving.

Langham looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Wilkon is defending well. Langham quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Wilkon has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Langham celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Chris Langham!
