Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Gerlach Rutger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rusty James!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutger tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but James swivels and escapes.
A slow jab from James misses its intended target.
James misses the jab.
James moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.


It looks like Gerlach Rutger has been cut.
Rutger avoids the body shot from James.
James throws a shot to the body.
James with a body punch. A glancing blow.
James connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Rutger momentarily.

Rutger gets a takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
James is looking to escape.
Rutger is looking to take a break and control but James is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rutger wants to take a breather but James is having none of it.

Rutger is really struggling to control James but he's trying to hold on to the position.
James wants to improve his position but Rutger is controlling well.
Rutger is thwarting James's attempts to control the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rutger avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
James connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Rutger takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
James lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Rutger looks for a takedown but James sprawls well.
James stuffs the takedown attempt from Rutger. Rutger gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gerlach Rutger. That's going to take a lot out of him.

James misses with a looping right.
James uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
James throws out a loose jab but Rutger uses good head movement to avoid it.
James moves into range and connects with a jab.

Rutger shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Rutger keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
James buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rutger sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Rutger misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
James lunges at Rutger with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Rutger's hand.


Gerlach Rutger's cut is getting worse.
James misses with a body kick.
James uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Good shot there by James.
Rutger shoots in for a double leg but James sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
James misses with a hook. Rutger ducked under it nicely.
James lands with a straight right. Rutger didn't see that one coming.
James is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Rutger had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James feints and then cracks Rutger's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Rutger down.
James scores with a jab to the body.
James lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by James.

James fails to land with a series of punches.
James fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Rutger looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Rutger is breathing heavily.
James paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.


Rutger is rocked!


Gerlach Rutger's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Good exchange - James coming out on top.
Oh Rutger is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
James drops Rutger with a naaaaasty hook - Rutger is in real trouble here! James dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rusty James!
