PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Simon Saez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saez comes to the cage accompanied by Lifer. Wallace has chosen Metallica-Enter Sandman as his entrance music. Dan Wallace told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Wallace!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Saez clinches with his opponent.
Saez lands a knee to the head.
Wallace drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Saez gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Saez pulls Wallace into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wallace accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Wallace passes Saez's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Saez pushes Wallace off looking to stand but Wallace dives back in and keeps control.

Wallace is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Saez is trying to stand up here but Wallace is controlling him well.
Saez is in trouble now - Wallace has advanced to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like Simon Saez has been cut.

Wallace goes for an armbar but Saez turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Saez.

Wallace has an active guard here but Saez has managed to pass into half guard.
Saez seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Wallace wants to improve his position but Saez is controlling well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wallace makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wallace.
Wallace looks gassed!

Wallace had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Saez is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wallace Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Saez's back instead.

Wallace wants to pass to mount but Saez is defending the position.
Saez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wallace's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wallace's back!
Wallace is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Saez is persistently looking for the submission but Wallace is defending it well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Saez doesn't have the hooks in and Wallace manages to turn into his guard.

Saez looking for a guillotine here but Wallace defends easily.

Wallace drops back looking for a leg! Saez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Saez manages to kick Wallace off! Wallace jumps back into Saez's guard.

Wallace is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Saez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
