PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Keyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stephen Keyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frankie Edgar!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Keyes throws a jab when Edgar was well out of range.

Edgar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Keyes wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edgar controlling the action here.
Edgar's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Keyes tries to get to full guard but Edgar has control of the leg.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Frankie Edgar was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Edgar takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Frankie Edgar has been cut.
No joy there for Keyes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Edgar shoots in and drives through. Keyes sprawls well.
Keyes misses with a straight left.
Keyes throws a chopping leg kick but Edgar manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Keyes misses with a head kick.

Keyes lands a big head kick that sends Edgar tumbling to the mat! Keyes takes a step backwards and waves Edgar back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Keyes on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Keyes tries to get out of the position.

Edgar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Let's hope that Edgar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Frankie Edgar wasn't active enough on the ground.
Keyes leaves Edgar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Edgar shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Stephen Keyes will probably get the nod.

Edgar has hold of Keyes's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Keyes manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
