PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mohammad Lowal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keanu Ikaika (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lowal comes to the cage accompanied by KING KING KING. Ikaika comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Not Afraid kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mohammad Lowal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Keanu Ikaika!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from Lowal.
Lowal fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lowal misses with a right hand
and Ikaika counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Ikaika takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Lowal throws a looping overhand right but Ikaika ducks down to avoid it.
Lowal throws an off balance right hand
and Ikaika counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ikaika rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Lowal counters with a one-two to the body.
Ikaika throws a body punch but Lowal moves out of range.
Lowal throws a combination that misses
and Ikaika connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Lowal shoots in looking for a takedown. Ikaika tries to sprawl out of it but Lowal keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ikaika manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lowal throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Ikaika counters with a straight right hand.
A combination from Lowal does no damage.
Lowal throws a predictable looking body shot

and Ikaika counters with a crisp one two that drops Lowal! Ikaika thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Lowal to his feet! Lowal is in big trouble!
Lowal misses with a left hand
and Ikaika makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Lowal moves out of range of the strikes.
Lowal throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Ikaika to counter with a crisp jab.


Lowal is rocked!
Lowal throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Lowal misses with a lunging right hand
and Ikaika counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ikaika displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lowal throws out the jab.
Ikaika throws a series of punches but Lowal moves out of range.
Lowal shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ikaika defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mohammad Lowal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ikaika misses with a few strikes there.
Ikaika swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ikaika getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Ikaika misses with a right hand

and Lowal counters with a takedown into side control.

Lowal is trying to get an arm triangle but Ikaika is defending well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ikaika pushes Lowal away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Lowal gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Lowal is trying to ground and pound but Ikaika uses the momentary lack of control by Lowal to regain half guard.
Lowal wants to pass to mount but Ikaika is defending the position.

Lowal not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Ikaika is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lowal seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ikaika does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Ikaika really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lowal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lowal is looking for a kimura but Ikaika is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lowal to get the leverage.
Lowal is trying to control the action in half guard but Ikaika is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Lowal is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Lowal tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ikaika knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Lowal is keen to just control but Ikaika is a slippery customer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lowal stalling away here and it's allowed Ikaika to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lowal blocks a jab.
Ikaika lands with an uppercut that bounces Lowal off the cage and back into rage.
Lowal lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ikaika circles away quickly and effectively.
Lowal ducks right into an uppercut from Ikaika.
A decent looking cross lands there for Lowal.
Lowal lands a body shot.
Lowal lands a two punch combo.
Ikaika with a jab.
Mohammad Lowal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ikaika dodges the punch combination from Lowal.
Ikaika stuffs the takedown.

Lowal misses with a hook
and Ikaika counters with a one-two to the body.
Lowal throws a left and a right that both miss
and Ikaika counters with a nice uppercut.

Lowal closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Lowal missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Lowal is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Ikaika is looking to improve his position.

Ikaika on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Lowal is keen to just control but Ikaika is a slippery customer.

Lowal looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ikaika trying to hold on to Lowal's head to control him but Lowal postures up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lowal has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lowal throws a wild left hand from mount and Ikaika manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mohammad Lowal will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Ikaika misses with a hook

so Lowal counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lowal is looking to work some ground and pound but Ikaika has wrist control.
Ikaika working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lowal.
Lowal trying to control but Ikaika is working from the bottom.
Lowal throws and elbow that misses. Ikaika uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lowal's guard. Nice move by Ikaika!

Lowal is trying to keep Ikaika in close.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Ikaika lying in Lowal's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. Lowal decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Ikaika taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mohammad Lowal!
