Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Karel Gil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John The Butcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gil comes to the cage accompanied by Papa Roach - Last Resort. Karel Gil has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Karel Gil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John The Butcher!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Butcher tries to clinch there but Gil circles away.
The Butcher misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The Butcher swings widly with a right hand
and Gil counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Gil fails in his attempt to clinch.
The Butcher fails with the takedown

and Gil counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Gil is pressing down on The Butcher's thigh, looking to free his foot. The Butcher is holding on for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gil is trying to work for a kimura but The Butcher is defending well.
Gil works his foot free and advances to mount.
Gil misses with a head shot.
Gil looking to control but The Butcher is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Gil breaks from The Butcher's wrist control and lands an elbow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gil goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now The Butcher is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gil is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Gil not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Gil working for a triangle but The Butcher defends it easily.
The Butcher would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Gil looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gil is trying to control the position but The Butcher postures up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gil looking for submissions from the bottom but instead The Butcher passes into half guard.
Gil is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The Butcher wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gil manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The Butcher avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gil will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gil trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The Butcher fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
The Butcher misses with a double jab
and Gil counters with a straight right hand.
John The Butcher seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The Butcher keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
John The Butcher is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gil dives in and scores a takedown into The Butcher's guard.
Gil tries to free his leg and advance position but The Butcher is retaining full guard.
Gil passes The Butcher's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Gil looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The Butcher has hold of Gil's hands but Gil slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Gil throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gil is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Gil passes into half guard.
Gil is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Gil scores with a couple of good head shots there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The Butcher in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
The Butcher is in a horrible position here. Gil smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Gil breaks from The Butcher's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gil working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Gil throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Gil goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now The Butcher is on top in guard.

Gil is looking for a triangle here but The Butcher uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Gil tries to buck The Butcher off but The Butcher is having none of it.
Gil is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on The Butcher's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Gil wants to control but The Butcher is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gil makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gil.

Gil is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gil bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in The Butcher's guard.
Gil loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gil looking to pass the guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karel Gil dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


The Butcher misses with a combination

and Gil counters with a shoot takedown. The Butcher fights it but they end up in guard.
The Butcher tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gil tries to free his leg and advance position but The Butcher is retaining full guard.

Gil drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but The Butcher manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gil has The Butcher in his guard.

The Butcher stands and steps away. Gil gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gil shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has The Butcher pinned against the cage. The Butcher gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The Butcher moves to clinch but Gil breaks away
and Gil counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps The Butcher thinking.
The Butcher tries for a takedown but Gil circles away easily
and Gil counters with a thumping low kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gil with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
The Butcher shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gil counters with a nice double leg into side control. The Butcher won't be happy with that.
Gil grinds an elbow into The Butcher's temple.
Gil trying to control the position but The Butcher is working away.
The Butcher takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gil creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Gil is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, The Butcher has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gil tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gil sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but The Butcher is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Karel Gil is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The Butcher throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
The Butcher is not content to let Gil control the position.
Gil controls the position.
John The Butcher has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gil wants to control but The Butcher is keeping him busy.
The Butcher managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Gil.

And that's the end of the fight!
Karel Gil showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gil has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
