PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joe Calzaghe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bong Toe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Calzaghe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bong Toe!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calzaghe blocks the body kick.
Toe swings away with a body shot that misses
and Calzaghe counters with a straight right hand.
Toe throws a leg kick that is checked

and Calzaghe counters with a shoot takedown. Toe fights it but they end up in guard.
Calzaghe prevents Toe from getting back to his feet.
Calzaghe trying to control but Toe is working from the bottom.
Toe wants to sweep but no luck.
Toe pulls Calzaghe in to control the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Toe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Toe wants it to stay on the feet.

and Toe counters with a big head kick but Calzaghe shrugs it off.

Toe swings widly with a right hand

and Calzaghe counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Calzaghe is fighting to break Toe's control of his arms but Toe is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Calzaghe prevents Toe from getting back to his feet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Toe is on top in guard.
Toe passes Calzaghe's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Calzaghe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Bong Toe has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

and Calzaghe counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Toe!
Calzaghe throws some wild stikes that Toe manages to avoid easily.
Toe tries to reverse the position but Calzaghe maintains control.

Calzaghe has hold of Toe's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Toe manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Calzaghe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Toe won't be happy with that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Calzaghe throws a strike aimed at the side of Toe's head but Toe avoids it well.

Toe utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Calzaghe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Toe works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Toe counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Calzaghe throws a strike but Toe rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Toe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Calzaghe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Toe won't allow Calzaghe to sweep him here.

Calzaghe is trying to keep Toe in close.
Toe trying to control but Calzaghe is working from the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Toe misses with a lunging right hand

so Calzaghe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Toe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Toe is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Calzaghe drops back looking for a leg! Toe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Toe manages to kick Calzaghe off! Calzaghe jumps back into Toe's guard.

Calzaghe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Toe holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Calzaghe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fighters are battling for position here. Toe manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Calzaghe stands up and waves to Toe to follow him.

Calzaghe shoots in and bounces Toe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Calzaghe loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Bong Toe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Toe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Calzaghe, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
