Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Josh Vendo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matheus Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josh Vendo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Vendo was covering up waiting for the punch and Mendes finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Mendes trying to control but Vendo is working from the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Mendes looking to sit in guard and control but Vendo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Vendo is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendes seems keen to control Vendo's posture.

Mendes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Vendo defends well.

Vendo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mendes looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mendes looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mendes!
Vendo is not content to let Mendes control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mendes wants to stand but Vendo is controlling his arm.
Mendes has knee on belly momentarily but Vendo bucks him off and regains half guard.
Mendes trying to control from half guard but Vendo is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendes wants to stand up but Vendo has a hold of him and won't allow it.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Matheus Mendes hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Mendes gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Vendo to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Vendo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mendes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Vendo, into his guard.
Mendes pushes down on Vendo's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mendes trying to control the action but Vendo is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matheus Mendes dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Vendo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Vendo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mendes wants to control from the top but Vendo keeps moving.

Vendo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Vendo working for a triangle but Mendes defends it easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mendes looking to sit in guard and control but Vendo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mendes wants to stand up but Vendo is controlling him.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Vendo has gone for a leg lock! Mendes slips out almost immediately though and dives into Vendo's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendes tries to stand but Vendo is controlling from the bottom.
Mendes postures up and lands a big shot to Vendo's brow.
Mendes trying to control but Vendo is working from the bottom.
Mendes is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Vendo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Vendo keeping moving, preventing Mendes from controlling successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Matheus Mendes hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Mendes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mendes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matheus Mendes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Vendo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mendes defends it easily.
Mendes wants to control from the top but Vendo keeps moving.

Mendes with a nice head shot there.
Mendes's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Matheus Mendes.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mendes enables Vendo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mendes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Vendo has gone for a leg lock! Mendes slips out almost immediately though and dives into Vendo's guard.

Mendes content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Vendo has locked up a guillotine! Vendo's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Mendes is holding on here and Vendo must be using up a lot of energy. Mendes has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Vendo gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Josh Vendo!
