Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donald Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ward is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Tap Out. Donald Patterson has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donald Patterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Ward!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ward closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Patterson quickly recovers to half guard.
Ward is trying to control. Patterson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ward is stalling here. Patterson is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Ward seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Patterson has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Patterson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ward on the ground.

Ward working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Patterson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Patterson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Ward is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ward passes the guard and advances to mount!

Ward is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Patterson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ward seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Patterson is holding on tight.
Patterson's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Ward wants to control the pace but Patterson is squirming around nicely.
Ward throwing strikes here but Patterson is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Ward has control of Patterson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Patterson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ward won't let Patterson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Ward can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Patterson is looking to escape.

Ward has hold of Patterson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Patterson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Ward moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Patterson has worked his arm free - good work by Patterson!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Ward dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ward gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Patterson counters with a nice low kick that buckles Ward's knee momentarily.
Ward tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Patterson swivels and escapes.
Ward doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Patterson closes the distance and clinches.
Patterson connects with a knee to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Patterson lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Rick Ward has been cut.

Patterson lands an elbow that stopped Ward in his tracks for a moment.
Patterson connects with a nasty looking knee right to Ward's face.
Ward is breathing heavily.

Patterson working the clinch nicely. Ward is working for position but Patterson cracks him with a big knee to the head! Ward crumples up against the ropes and Patterson lands two more shots before the ref can save Ward! This one is all over!
