PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gary Bomb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Connelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Bomb!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Patrick Connelly!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connelly takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Bomb tries to clinch there but Connelly circles away.
Connelly misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Connelly fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bomb sprawls well initially but Connelly persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Connelly works his way into side control.
Connelly in the domination position with Bomb hanging on.
Bomb gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Connelly looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Bomb tries to hold on but Connelly postures up.
Connelly throws some wild stikes that Bomb manages to avoid easily.
Connelly has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Connelly working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Bomb bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Connelly has his foot on Bomb's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bomb works his way back into a safe position though.
Bomb is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bomb passes Connelly's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Connelly tries to get to full guard but Bomb has control of the leg.

Bomb avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Bomb slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Connelly keeping moving, preventing Bomb from controlling successfully.

Bomb decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Connelly, up you get!

Bomb decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bomb is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Connelly makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Connelly.
Connelly trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Connelly throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Connelly lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bomb!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Connelly is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Bomb has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Connelly trying to control but Bomb is having none of it.

Bomb takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bomb knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Connelly on the ground.
Connelly throwing strikes here but Bomb is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Connelly takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Connelly wants to finish this one by submission but Bomb is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Connelly.
Bomb sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Bomb wants to get back to his feet.
Bomb wants to get back to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Connelly lands strikes from half guard.
Connelly wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bomb keeps working.
Connelly is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bomb fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bomb gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Connelly counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bomb's guard now.
Bomb wants to stand and escape but Connelly is having none of it.

Bomb is working an open guard so Connelly takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Bomb tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Connelly counters with a single leg into guard. Bomb didn't expect that.
Connelly slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Connelly drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bomb looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bomb looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bomb!

You can see the frustration on Connelly's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Bomb decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Connelly circles away from the clinch attempt

and Connelly counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Bomb is trying to control the position but Connelly postures up.
Connelly trying to control the position from guard on top but Bomb is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Connelly postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bomb is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Connelly wants to control from the top but Bomb keeps moving.
Connelly wants to pass the guard but Bomb is keeping the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Bomb gets caught flat footed, as Connelly shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Connelly stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bomb swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Connelly feints and as Bomb raises his hands in defense, Connelly changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Connelly works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Still in half guard, Connelly seems content to control.
Connelly prevents Bomb from improving his position.
Connelly wants to control but Bomb is keeping him busy.
Connelly is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Connelly has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Bomb works to full guard.

Bomb has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Connelly can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Connelly advances position into side control!

Connelly has hold of Bomb's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Bomb seems comfortable defending it but Connelly has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Bomb is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Bomb is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Connelly couldn't care less - he's delighted!
