PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pepe LePew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Tonq (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Terry Tonq told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pepe LePew!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Terry Tonq!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LePew fails with the takedown.
Good shot there by Tonq.
Tonq waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract LePew.
LePew fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tonq avoids it really well and circles away.
LePew steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tonq.
Tonq jabbing away but nothing is landing.
The fighters circling - Tonq throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
LePew misses with a takedown attempt - Tonq sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pepe LePew. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A looping hook to the body misses from Tonq. LePew does a little dance to reset his feet.

Tonq keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Terry Tonq is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tonq misses with the combination.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from LePew.
Tonq jabbing away but nothing is landing.
LePew steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tonq.
LePew on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
LePew fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tonq avoids it really well and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tonq bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

LePew changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Tonq looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
LePew wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tonq keeps working.

LePew tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
LePew tries to move to mount but Tonq blocks the move with his legs.

Tonq gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tonq can do anything to dispel that myth.

LePew has hold of Tonq's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Tonq manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

LePew jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Tonq manages to avoid the submission attempt.

LePew tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no LePew has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Tonq wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

LePew has hold of Tonq's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Tonq tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - LePew cranks the arm and Tonq screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Tonq, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
