Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sparta Kingsbury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bear Brand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sparta Kingsbury!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bear Brand!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brand tries a head kick but it misses.

Brand gets a takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brand in particular looking to stall.
Kingsbury is refusing to be controlled, as Brand sits in half guard.
Kingsbury pushes Brand off looking to stand but Brand dives back in and keeps control.
Brand seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Brand controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bear Brand hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Kingsbury closes the distance and clinches.

Brand leaning against his opponent.
Kingsbury misses with a knee to the head.
Brand trying to land knees to the body.

Kingsbury manages to break the clinch.
No joy there for Kingsbury, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kingsbury tries to clinch there but Brand circles away.
Kingsbury feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Brands jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Brand scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Kingsbury clinches up against the cage.
Kingsbury is leaning against Brand and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Kingsbury has Brand pushed against the cage.
Brand tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kingsbury prevents a takedown attempt there.
Brand wants to stall.

Brand pulls guard effortlessly.

Kingsbury stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Kingsbury feints a jab promting Brand to slip. Kingsbury then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Brand slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Kingsbury wants to clinch.

Brand closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kingsbury did well to prevent Brand getting side control.
Kingsbury really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Brand moves nicely into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brand is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kingsbury is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kingsbury is breathing heavily.
Kingsbury tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Brand scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Kingsbury?

Brand is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kingsbury can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Brand working for a submission but Kingsbury is keeping him at bay.
Brand won't let Kingsbury get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Brand controlling the position easily from mount.
It looks like Brand might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Let's hope that Brand has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bear Brand dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Brand moves into the clinch successfully.
Kingsbury scores with a shoulder strike.

Kingsbury breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kingsbury tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Brand counters with a head kick.
Brand keeps the fight on the outside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kingsbury moves to clinch but Brand breaks away

and Brand counters by clinching up.
Brand tries to break the clinch but Kingsbury is controlling the position.
Brand can't find room to land a body shot as Kingsbury controls the action.
Brand has Kingsbury pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Kingsbury manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Kingsbury is leaning against Brand and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Stalling in the clinch from Kingsbury.
Kingsbury lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Brand or not.
Kingsbury has Brand pushed against the cage.
Brand misses with a hook to the ribs.
Brand is trying to stall.
With the fighters up against the cage, Brand throws an elbow but misses.

Kingsbury pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kingsbury avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sparta Kingsbury is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Brand rushes Kingsbury and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kingsbury breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brand fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kingsbury throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Brand stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kingsbury misses with a head kick.

Kingsbury tries to close the distance and clinch but Brand swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kingsbury wants to clinch up but Brand keeps it at a distance.
Kingsbury closes the distance but Brand moves to the side

and Brand counters with a shoot takedown. Kingsbury fights it but they end up in guard.

Brand decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Brand feints and as Kingsbury raises his hands in defense, Brand changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Brand won't allow Kingsbury to get back to his feet.
Brand wants to pass the guard but Kingsbury is keeping the position.

Brand gets to his feet. Kingsbury looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Brand shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kingsbury sprawls well. Kingsbury wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Brand gets slowly back to his feet.
Sparta Kingsbury has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bear Brand.
Kingsbury fails to land with a series of punches.
Sparta Kingsbury is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That kick from Brand tenderised Kingsbury's leg. Kingsbury is trying to keep his angry face on.
Brand shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kingsbury pinned against the cage. Kingsbury gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Kingsbury breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Brand counters with a nice leg kick.
Kingsbury walks into a jab.
Kingsbury tries to clinch but Brand is having none of it.
Kingsbury lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Nice sprawl there from Kingsbury as Brand shoots in.

Kingsbury takes the fight into the clinch.

Kingsbury's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Brand lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Kingsbury doesn't manage to clinch there - Brand circles away.
Brand throws a leg kick which misses Kingsbury's front leg but catches the back leg as Kingsbury tries to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bear Brand showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Brand tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Kingsbury pushes Brand up against the cage in a clinch.
Kingsbury has Brand pressed against the cage, preventing Brand from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kingsbury rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Brand moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Brand decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kingsbury's guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Brand prevents Kingsbury from standing back up.
Brand trying to control the action but Kingsbury is working from the bottom.

Brand looks for a takedown but Kingsbury sprawls well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Brand is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kingsbury's half guard.
Brand is keen to just control but Kingsbury is a slippery customer.
Brand is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Brand stops Kingsbury from getting back to his feet.
Brand wants to control but Kingsbury is keeping him busy.

Kingsbury throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Brand.
Kingsbury moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Sparta Kingsbury has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bear Brand is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Brand feints and then cracks Kingsbury's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kingsbury down.

Bear Brand comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Brand winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
