PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phil Dass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nigel Uno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Phil Dass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nigel Uno!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Sosuke Kotani and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uno keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Dass gets caught flat footed, as Uno shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Uno throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dass works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Uno trying to stand up but can't free himself from Dass's guard.
Uno connects with a couple of short punches.
Dass is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Uno must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Dass not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Uno decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Uno moves into the clinch.

Uno gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Uno stalling away here and it's allowed Dass to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Uno sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dass's guard.
Dass gets full guard.
Dass is trying to keep Uno in close.
Uno tries to free his leg and advance position but Dass is retaining full guard.
Uno missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Uno trying to control but Dass is working from the bottom.
Dass trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dass wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Dass working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Uno doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Uno manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Uno is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Dass is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Dass has escaped and now he's on top!

Dass seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Uno wants to get back to his feet but Dass passes into half guard.
Uno is looking to improve his position.
Uno looks gassed!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Dass seems to be looking for submissions.
Dass prevents Uno from improving his position.
Dass prevents Uno from standing back up.
Dass slows the pace down in half guard.
Dass not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Dass is keen to just control but Uno is a slippery customer.
Uno won't allow Dass to pass to mount.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Uno is taking a breather. Dass says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Uno is thwarting Dass's attempts to control the position.
Uno thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Uno not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Uno trying to control the action but Dass is working from the bottom.

The fighters are battling for position here. Dass manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Uno wants to control from the top but Dass keeps moving.

Dass throws a strike but Uno rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Uno wants to pass the guard but Dass is keeping the position.

Uno gets to his feet. Dass looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Dass clinches up against the cage.
Dass tries to pull guard but Uno won't allow it.
Uno prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Dass. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dass jumps guard but Uno stands there with Dass around his waist. Dass gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Uno should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Uno ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Uno no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Dass trying to move into half guard but instead Uno has managed to sweep!

Uno wants to control from the top but Dass keeps moving.
Uno is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Uno trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Uno stays in close to Dass's body and controls the position.
Dass working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Uno.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Uno shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dass tries to reverse the position but Uno maintains control.

Nigel Uno has got the better of the ground game so far.
Uno is breathing heavily.
Uno trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Dass is looking to improve his position but Uno isn't that keen on the idea.

Uno avoids the attempt from Dass to control.
Dass is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Uno stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Uno doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Uno avoids the head kick by Dass.

Dass clinches with his opponent.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Dass is looking to break free of the clinch but Uno has double underhooks.
Uno prevents the takedown attempt.
Dass is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Uno pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Dass drops down looking for an ankle pick but Uno pulls his leg out and moves away.

Uno is trying to work for a kimura but Dass is defending well.
Well, if Uno is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Dass working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Uno has passed into half guard!

Uno is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Dass still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Dass has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Uno is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Uno is being controlled here.
Dass trying to control the action but Uno is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Uno's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Nigel Uno comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Uno has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
