PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Mills (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mills comes into the arena with Roberto Mills Entrance blaring out of the sound system. Martin Hawk is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roberto Mills!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Martin Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mills shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mills showed some decent athleticism there.
Mills throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Hawk won't allow Mills to pass to mount.

Hawk is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mills pulls his head out easily.

Hawk looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mills wants to get back to his feet.
Hawk looks like he's trying to stand up.
Mills is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Hawk is trying to stand up here but Mills is controlling him well.

Mills works his foot free and advances to mount.
Mills won't let Hawk get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Mills has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mills has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hawk's face.
Mills postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hawk looks a forlorn figure.

Mills with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Hawk is looking to improve his position but Mills isn't that keen on the idea.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Hawk is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Mills wants to finish this one by submission but Hawk is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mills.

Mills lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hawk hang on?

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Hawk shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Hawk throwing shots but Mills is blocking nicely.
Mills is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mills works his way to full guard. Good work.
Hawk wants to stand but Mills is controlling his posture from full guard.
Mills has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hawk moves away from the strike by Mills.
Mills cracks Hawk with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Mills closes the distance but Hawk moves to the side

and Hawk counters with a single leg into guard. Mills didn't expect that.
Mills is trying to control the position but Hawk postures up.

Hawk with a nice head shot there.
Mills is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Mills is looking for a triangle but Hawk pushes his legs off easily.
Mills keeping full guard, as Hawk tries to pass.

Hawk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hawk wants to control from the top but Mills keeps moving.
Mills throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Mills is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hawk defends well.
Hawk throwing strikes but missing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Hawk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Hawk shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mills manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hawk must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hawk throws a big right hand that misses.
Hawk looking to sit in guard and control but Mills gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mills wants to stand but Hawk is controlling his posture from full guard.

Mills gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Hawk closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mills quickly recovers to half guard.
Mills blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hawk.

Hawk is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mills doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hawk.
Hawk working over Mills with some ground and pound. Mills looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Roberto Mills overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hawk looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mills wants to control but Hawk is keeping busy.

Mills has hold of Hawk's hands but Hawk slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Hawk works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hawk lands a big shot there that rocks Mills but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Hawk is working for a guillotine from mount but Mills frees his head quite easily.

Mills can't escape the position.
Hawk avoids the attempt from Mills to control.
Hawk with a couple of short strikes.
Mills really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Martin Hawk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hawk has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
