The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Thomas.
Thomas closes the distance looking to clinch
and Diaz counters with a right hand to the body.
Thomas misses with a combination
and Diaz counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Thomas shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Diaz counters with a two punch combo.
A decent looking cross lands there for Diaz.
Thomas takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Chris Thomas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Thomas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to avoid it but Thomas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diaz to the ground. Diaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Diaz connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Diaz fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Thomas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Thomas ducks right into an uppercut from Diaz.

Diaz throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Thomas on the side of the head.

Thomas is rocked!
Diaz is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Diaz lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Diaz scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
A left lands for Diaz.
A nice combination there by Diaz.
Thomas is still on wobbly legs! Can Diaz finish him?
Thomas is trying desperately to land a takedown but Diaz is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Thomas.
A jab lands there for Diaz.
Diaz thuds a left hand into Thomas's body.
Thomas seems to have recovered his senses.
Thomas has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Diaz finds it's way round the side to connect with Thomas's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Diaz is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Thomas takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Diaz throws a solid leg kick but Thomas takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Diaz.
Diaz shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Diaz connects with a looping right hand.

That has opened up Chris Thomas's cut even more.
Diaz moves into range and connects with a jab.
A jab lands there for Diaz.
Thomas takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Diaz cracks Thomas with an open hand slap.
Diaz fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Thomas looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Diaz slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Diaz connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Diaz feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Thomas sprawling to the canvas! Thomas rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Diaz finish him?!

The cut above Chris Thomas's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Thomas gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Diaz gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
