PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ai Pot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akbar Hussein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pot comes to the cage accompanied by Why Can't We Be Friends?. The key to victory for Ai Pot has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Ai Pot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Akbar Hussein!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hussein misses the body punch

and Pot counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pot.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Pot showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Pot stopping the sweep attempt from Hussein.
Hussein keeping moving, preventing Pot from controlling successfully.
Hussein should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Hussein looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pot is one step ahead there.
Pot trying to control the position from guard on top but Hussein is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Pot slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Ai Pot has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Pot misses with a takedown

and Hussein counters with a shoot takedown. Pot fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hussein pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pot is keeping the position for now.
Pot knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hussein on the ground.
Hussein throwing strikes from guard but Pot blocks nicely.
Hussein postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hussein has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hussein wants to pass the guard but Pot is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pot looking for a sweep. Not yet Pot, not yet.

Hussein drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hussein jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Pot keeping moving, preventing Hussein from controlling successfully.
Pot not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Pot manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pot can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hussein is looking to escape.
Pot prevents Hussein from getting the reversal.
Hussein is squirming around, avoiding Pot's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ai Pot will probably get the nod.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Pot holds on and takes a little breather.
Pot has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Hussein thows a big elbow that misses.
Hussein throws a big right hand that misses.
Pot tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hussein passes into half guard.
Hussein sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pot defending well though.

Hussein is just content to waste time from the top position. Pot takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Hussein throws and elbow that misses. Pot uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hussein's guard. Nice move by Pot!
Akbar Hussein has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hussein wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Pot tries to free his leg and advance position but Hussein is retaining full guard.

Hussein has his foot on Pot's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pot works his way back into a safe position though.
Pot will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pot wants to control from the top but Hussein keeps moving.
Hussein seems keen to control Pot's posture.
Hussein trying to keep a closed guard but Pot is proving a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pot shoots for a takedown but Hussein saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hussein slips under a jab.

Nice sprawl there from Hussein as Pot shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ai Pot. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hussein throws a shot from downtown. Pot moves away and avoids it.
Pot shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hussein throws a looping overhand right but Pot ducks down to avoid it.
Pot looks for a takedown but Hussein sprawls well.
Pot misses with a wild body shot.
Pot tries for a takedown but Hussein sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Pot fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Hussein misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pot.
A head kick misses from Pot.
No joy there for Pot, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hussein avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hussein just misses with a punch to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pot throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pot takes a swing at Hussein's ribcage but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akbar Hussein showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pot shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hussein defends it nicely.
Pot looks to score with a jab to the body but Hussein is just out of range.

Hussein decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pot is trying is best to control the position here.
Hussein tries to pass the half guard into mount. Pot knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hussein stalling.

Hussein is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pot doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hussein.
Pot moves into full guard.
Pot looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Akbar Hussein comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hussein has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
