Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Quijivix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Newton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Quijivix might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to In The Morning. The crowd seem to be enjoying Newton's choice of entrance music: Hurt - T.I.. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miguel Quijivix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrew Newton!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Newton throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Newton lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Newton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Newton wants to stand but Quijivix is controlling the position.
Quijivix trying to control the position from guard on top but Newton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Quijivix is fighting to break Newton's control of his arms but Newton is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Quijivix wants to control from the top but Newton keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Quijivix won't allow Newton to get back to his feet.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Newton throws a low kick but it's checked well by Quijivix.
A clash of legs there as Quijivix blocks the low kick.

Quijivix drives through with a takedown into Newton's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Newton keeping moving, preventing Quijivix from controlling successfully.
Quijivix postures up.
Quijivix pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Newton is keeping the position for now.
Quijivix slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Quijivix in side control, throwing shots but Newton defends.
Quijivix trying to control the action but Newton is working from the bottom.

Newton is not content to let Quijivix control the position.

Quijivix is trying to get an arm triangle but Newton is defending well.

Quijivix is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Newton has escaped the position, nice work there.
Newton is trying to get back to half guard.
Quijivix tries to move to mount but Newton blocks the move with his legs.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Quijivix working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Newton tries to improve position but can't.

Quijivix thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Newton pushes Quijivix away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Quijivix gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Newton is trying to improve his position.
You can see the frustration on Newton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Newton is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Quijivix is staying active.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quijivix looks to throw the jab but Newton is out of range.
Quijivix checks a leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Newton looks to land a combination. Quijivix sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Newton lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Newton throws a push kick but Quijivix slaps the foot to one side.
Newton is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Newton misses with a body kick.
Quijivix lands with a nice body punch.
Newton scoring well with a low kick there.
Andrew Newton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Quijivix misses the shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from Quijivix. Newton does a little dance to reset his feet.

Quijivix shoots in and bounces Newton off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Newton looking for a sweep. Not yet Newton, not yet.

Quijivix is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Quijivix postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Newton is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Quijivix, into his guard.

Andrew Newton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Quijivix avoids the head kick by Newton.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Newton punishes Quijivix's body with a nice straight punch.

Newton throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Newton attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Quijivix swats away the attempt to clinch by Newton.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Newton misses with a head kick.
Good leg kick by Newton there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Newton wants to land a leg kick but Quijivix is out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Newton throws a sloppy head kick and Quijivix moves out of range easily.
Newton misses with an attempted mid kick.
Quijivix ducks under a wild hook from Newton.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Newton takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Newton misses with a lunging right hand
enabling Quijivix to counter with a crisp jab.
Newton misses with a hook
and Quijivix counters with a nice uppercut.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Newton throws a front kick that sends Quijivix stumbling back into the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andrew Newton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Newton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
