PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danny Barrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artem Zarencev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Artem Zarencev!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barrow shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Zarencev wants to get back to his feet.

Barrow is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Zarencev sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zarencev is looking for a sweep. Barrow is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Zarencev is positioning himself well to prevent Barrow advancing to mount.

Barrow is working for a submission of some sort.
Barrow seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Zarencev does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Zarencev is trying to control but can't.

Barrow decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Zarencev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Barrow is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Zarencev is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Zarencev stands up and beckons Barrow to join him on the feet.

Barrow closes the distance and lands a one-two.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Barrow manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Zarencev on his heels. He'll look to pass Zarencev's guard now, I'm sure.
Zarencev looks gassed!

Barrow stands and steps away. Zarencev gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Barrow looks to land a combination. Zarencev sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Zarencev swats away the attempt to clinch by Barrow.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Zarencev instigates a clinch.
Barrow is working for takedown but Zarencev is calmly controlling the position for now.

Zarencev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Barrow tries to close the distance and clinch up but Zarencev swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Barrow shoots in for a takedown but Zarencev shows good takedown defense.
Zarencev stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Danny Barrow. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Barrow is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Zarencev gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Barrow is working for takedown but Zarencev is calmly controlling the position for now.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Barrow just misses with a elbow thrown towards Zarencev's brow.
Barrow is trying to push Zarencev away but Zarencev has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Zarencev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Zarencev forces Barrow back against the cage and clinches.
Barrow tries to pull guard but Zarencev holds him up against the cage and eventually Barrow drops back down to his feet.
Barrow fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Barrow tries to break free but Zarencev pushes him back against the cage.
Zarencev trying to control the position but instead, Barrow has worked for underhooks and has pushed Zarencev into the cage.

Barrow has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Zarencev clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Barrow is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Zarencev defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zarencev breaks Barrow's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Barrow looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zarencev is one step ahead there.
Zarencev has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Barrow is proving hard to escape from.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Barrow will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Barrow has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

A left and a right from Barrow both land. Nice combination.
Horrible takedown by Zarencev or perhaps it was just good defense by Barrow which made him look bad.
Barrow looks to land a combination but Zarencev avoids it well.
Barrow tries to close the distance and clinch but Zarencev swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
