PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between German Salbiev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anatolii Kharlampiev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kharlampiev has chosen Sambo Frustration as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Anatolii Kharlampiev will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, German Salbiev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anatolii Kharlampiev!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Valeri Chadov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salbiev with a poor takedown
and Kharlampiev counters with a body kick.
Salbiev with a lazy takedown attempt

and Kharlampiev counters with a nice double leg into side control. Salbiev won't be happy with that.
An elbow from Kharlampiev crashes against the mat.
Kharlampiev postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Salbiev parries the strikes from Kharlampiev easily there. Kharlampiev is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Salbiev to escape.

Kharlampiev tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kharlampiev stands up and beckons Salbiev to his feet.

Salbiev decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kharlampiev trying to hold on to Salbiev's head to control him but Salbiev postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Salbiev thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Kharlampiev to regain full guard.
Salbiev will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kharlampiev is on top in guard.

Kharlampiev is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Salbiev is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Salbiev has escaped and now he's on top!
Salbiev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kharlampiev manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kharlampiev looking to control but Salbiev is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Salbiev is looking to improve his position but Kharlampiev isn't that keen on the idea.
Kharlampiev throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Kharlampiev throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Salbiev is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Kharlampiev trying to control but Salbiev is having none of it.
Salbiev wants to hold on but Kharlampiev pushes him away.
Salbiev is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Salbiev is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Kharlampiev prevents Salbiev from getting the reversal.
Poor strikes thrown by Kharlampiev there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Salbiev is trying to escape the mount.

Kharlampiev looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Salbiev on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Salbiev tries to get out of the position.
Kharlampiev throwing strikes here but Salbiev is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anatolii Kharlampiev dominated that round.

Kharlampiev looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Salbiev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Salbiev looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kharlampiev puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Kharlampiev is looking to take a break and control but Salbiev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Salbiev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kharlampiev on the ground.

Kharlampiev is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Salbiev doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kharlampiev.

Salbiev is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kharlampiev trying to control from half guard but Salbiev is working away.
Kharlampiev is pressing down on Salbiev's thigh, looking to free his foot. Salbiev is holding on for now.
Kharlampiev is trying to control the action in half guard but Salbiev is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Salbiev is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kharlampiev is looking for a kimura but Salbiev is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kharlampiev to get the leverage.

Kharlampiev decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Salbiev gets caught napping as Kharlampiev dives in and scores a takedown. Salbiev manages to retain guard.

Kharlampiev looking to sit in guard and control but Salbiev gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Salbiev engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Kharlampiev lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Salbiev!

Kharlampiev get's back to his feet.
Salbiev shoots and misses

and Kharlampiev counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Salbiev wants to improve his position but instead Kharlampiev has moved into half guard.
Kharlampiev wants to control but Salbiev is keeping him busy.

Kharlampiev decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Salbiev gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Kharlampiev counters with a three punch combo that has Salbiev backing up. Salbiev nods at Kharlampiev to acknowledge the strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Salbiev throws a lazy uppercut
and Kharlampiev counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anatolii Kharlampiev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Salbiev fails with the takedown

and Kharlampiev decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Salbiev's guard.

Kharlampiev is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kharlampiev wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Salbiev, who protects the arm well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Salbiev is trying to control Kharlampiev's posture but Kharlampiev avoids it.

Well Kharlampiev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
