PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Activin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and the natural Couture (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Couture is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Eminence Front. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Couture swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Activin moves into range and connects with a jab.
Activin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Couture.
Activin slips under a jab.
Couture dodges the punch combination from Activin.

Activin dives in and scores a takedown into Couture's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Activin content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Activin landing with the ground and pound.
Activin preventing the sweep.
Activin throwing strikes from guard but Couture blocks nicely.
Couture keeping moving, preventing Activin from controlling successfully.

Activin drops back looking for a leg! Couture is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Couture manages to kick Activin off! Activin jumps back into Couture's guard.

Couture working for submissions but it's allowed Activin to get to half guard.
Activin is nestled in close to Couture, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Couture wants to control but Activin is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Activin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Activin throwing shots but Couture is blocking nicely.

Activin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Couture defends it well.
Activin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Couture does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Activin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Couture has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Activin has managed to get both his arms back between Couture's legs - danger averted.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Activin passes Couture's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Activin sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Couture defending well though.
Activin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Couture does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Activin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Couture's head.
Activin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Couture keeps working.
Activin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Couture pushes Activin off but Activin dives into side control.
Couture really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Activin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Activin is looking to take a break and control but Couture is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Activin looks to land a right hand but Couture moved out of range.

Couture instigates a clinch.
Couture using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Activin has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Couture blocking some punches.
Couture tries to score a body lock takedown but Activin shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
A head punch on the inside from Couture fails to land.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Activin here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Activin misses with some punches.
Activin throws a punch but it's blocked by Couture.
Activin tries to work over Couture's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Activin is working Couture over against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Couture.
With the fighters up against the cage, Couture throws an elbow but misses.
Couture changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Activin fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Activin tests Couture's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A lazy left from Activin finds it's target.

The fight stays on the outside here - Couture looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Activin throws a right and a left that both miss.
Couture misses the body punch
and Activin counters with a nice body shot.
Couture is breathing heavily.
Activin throws out a leg kick but Couture moves out of range and Activin only half commits.

Activin scores with a jab to the head.
Couture scores with a sloppy right hand. Activin should have avoided that one.
Couture takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Activin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Activin lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Activin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Couture has momentary wrist control but Activin slips an elbow through the middle.
Activin is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Couture working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Activin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Activin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Activin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Couture is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Activin, into his guard.

Activin is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Activin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Couture defends it easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Activin is on top in guard.

Activin lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Couture keeping moving, preventing Activin from controlling successfully.

Couture pushes Activin off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Couture misses with a head kick.

Couture connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Couture drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Couture must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Activin wants to sweep but no luck.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Couture throws and elbow that misses. Activin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Couture's guard. Nice move by Activin!

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Couture takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
An inside leg kick from Activin misses.
Couture takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Couture wants to clinch up but Activin keeps it at a distance.
Couture falls off balance throwing a combination
and Activin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Activin scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Couture shoots in for a takedown but Activin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Couture is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Activin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Couture.
Couture takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Activin getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Couture takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Activin is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Activin throws a series of strikes that have Couture backpedaling.

Couture darts in trying to clinch
letting Activin counter with a right hand.

Activin throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Couture crashing down! Couture tries to stagger back to his feet but Activin just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Couture asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.
