Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jordan Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Igor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Emelianenko drives through with a takedown into guard.
Emelianenko wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving.
Emelianenko wants to pass the guard but Hughes is keeping the position.
Emelianenko throws a strike but Hughes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Emelianenko has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hughes is looking to stand up but Emelianenko won't let him.

Emelianenko has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hughes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Emelianenko throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Emelianenko is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hughes defends well.

Hughes wants to control from the top but Emelianenko keeps moving.
Emelianenko wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hughes throws a leg kick but Emelianenko sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Igor Emelianenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Hughes counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Emelianenko throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Hughes is breathing heavily.
Emelianenko connects with a right hand. Hughes shakes it off.
Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Emelianenko swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Emelianenko counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Emelianenko is pushing down on Hughes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hughes is fighting to maintain full guard but Emelianenko has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hughes is controlling Emelianenko's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Emelianenko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Emelianenko seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Emelianenko wants to free his trapped foot but Hughes is holding on for dear life with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Igor Emelianenko dominated that round.
That's time! Hughes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Emelianenko throws a right and a left that both miss.
Emelianenko lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Oooooh!!! Emelianenko has knocked Hughes down with a huge combo! Emelianenko steps away and waves a wobbly Hughes back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Emelianenko fires a straight punch through the middle that cracks Hughes square on the jaw! Damn, Hughes is out cold on his feet and topples face first to the canvas! Wow, I haven't seen a knockout that brutal in a long time!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Igor Emelianenko!
