The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Excellent takedown into side control there by Shiro.
Kovalev tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Shiro cracks Kovalev with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Kovalev is being controlled here.
Kovalev has one of Shiro's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shiro looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Kovalev is trying to control Shiro's posture but Shiro avoids it.
Kovalev holds on to Shiro's head and controls the position momentarily.
Shiro is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Kovalev is trying to escape and Shiro transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Kovalev is forced to tap! Nice work there by Shiro! Very nice indeed!
