PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artur Grygiel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shawn Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Artur Grygiel!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left and a right from Grygiel both land. Nice combination.
Grygiel blocks a head kick by Powers.
Grygiel is looking to clinch.
Grygiel is looking to clinch but Powers is avoiding it.
Grygiel tries to close the distance and clinch but Powers swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Grygiel rushes Powers and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Grygiel breaks from the clinch.
Grygiel digs a good hook to Powers's body.
Powers misses with a low kick as Grygiel jumps back.
Grygiel lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Grygiel lands a jab-cross combination.
Powers throws a leg kick but Grygiel moved away.
Grygiel's corner calls for a 1-2. Grygiel obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Grygiel misses with a wild combination.

Powers gets a double leg takedown into Grygiel's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Powers passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grygiel is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Powers is controlling him well.
Powers controls the position.
Powers seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Grygiel for as long as he can get away with.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Powers wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Grygiel, who protects the arm well.
Powers remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Powers's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Powers advances to mount.
Powers throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Grygiel looks gassed!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Grygiel is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Powers has taken his back!
Powers really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Grygiel.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shawn Powers will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Grygiel changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Powers looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Grygiel looking to control but instead Powers has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Powers has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Grygiel. Oh but Powers has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Grygiel goes limp - he's gone! Powers jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
