The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez fails to land the takedown.
James Bija seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bija cracks Rodriguez with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Bija has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Rodriguez to stand back up!

It looks like Alex Rodriguez has been cut.
Rodriguez dodges the punch combination from Bija.

Rodriguez instigates a clinch.

Rodriguez breaks from the clinch.
Rodriguez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Bija.

Rodriguez darts in and clinches Bija up against the cage.

and Rodriguez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rodriguez sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Bija wants to get back to his feet but Rodriguez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Rodriguez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Rodriguez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bija works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bija knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rodriguez on the ground.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alex Rodriguez wasn't active enough on the ground.
The fighters circling - Bija throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Bija throws a big shot that misses.
Rodriguez shoots in looking for a takedown but Bija manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rodriguez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bija throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bija lands with a big left! Rodriguez is wobbled badly! Bija comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Rodriguez to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.
