PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tugg Speedman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Bede (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tugg Speedman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lucas Bede!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bede swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Speedman.
Bede waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Speedman.
Bede drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Speedman throws a lazy uppercut
and Bede counters with a lovely straight right hand!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bede throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Speedman counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bede pushes Speedman off looking to stand but Speedman dives back in and keeps control.
Bede is looking for a sweep. Speedman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bede is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Bede trying to control but Speedman postures up.
Bede wants to improve his position but Speedman is controlling well.
Bede trying to control from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Speedman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bede keeps working.
Bede moves into full guard.
Speedman looking to pass the guard.
Bede is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Speedman is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Speedman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bede manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Speedman has Bede in his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Speedman tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Speedman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Speedman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bede is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Speedman has his foot on Bede's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bede works his way back into a safe position though.

Speedman controls Bede momentarily but Bede frees himself.
Speedman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bede's guard.

Speedman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Speedman throws a predictable looking body shot
and Bede counters with a slapping leg kick.
Speedman throws a jab but it's blocked by Bede.
Bede scores with the left hand. Speedman knows he should have avoided that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bede throws a left and a right that both miss
and Speedman counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Speedman moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Lucas Bede is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Bede throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Speedman sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bede thows a body shot but no joy.
Bede throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lucas Bede is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bede has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bede there as he acknowledges the shot.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bede throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Speedman counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Bede misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Speedman.
Bede lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Speedman backs up against the cage.
Speedman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bede sprawls well. Bede wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Speedman gets slowly back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Speedman on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Bede. Bede obviously looking to wear him down.
Speedman punishes Bede's body with a nice straight punch.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Speedman throws a predictable looking body shot
and Bede counters with a stiff right hand.
Bede feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Speedmans jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Speedman throws a lazy uppercut
and Bede counters with a nice uppercut.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Speedman throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bede sees it coming and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lucas Bede showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Bede fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Speedman manages to avoid it.

Bede lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Speedman circles away quickly and effectively.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Bede takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and Speedman cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

and Speedman takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Lucas Bede seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bede cracks Speedman with an open hand slap.
Bede throws a push kick but Speedman slaps the foot to one side.
Speedman avoids the body shot from Bede.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bede connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Speedman momentarily.

Speedman scores a takedown into full mount!
Bede is desperately trying to improve his position but Speedman has a good base and remains in mount.

Speedman is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Bede to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Bede shrugs it off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bede is in all sorts of trouble here.
Speedman lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Bede hang on?
Bede tries to hold on but Speedman postures up.

Speedman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Speedman goes for an armbar but Bede turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Bede.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tugg Speedman showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Speedman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
