Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shifty Teixeira!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wayne Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Teixeira shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense.
Teixeira throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Teixeira off to one side.
Teixeira fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shifty Teixeira. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Teixeira closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Johnson to the mat! Johnson manages to get full guard.

Teixeira is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Johnson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Johnson has escaped and now he's on top!

Teixeira is breathing heavily.
Johnson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
I looks like Johnson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Johnson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Teixeira wants to get back to full guard but Johnson has passed into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Johnson lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Johnson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Teixeira is looking to improve his position but Johnson isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Johnson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Teixeira tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Johnson gets his hands free as Teixeira looks to control.
Johnson controlling the position well here. Teixeira rolled but Johnson kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Despite being in the dominant position, Wayne Johnson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Teixeira fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Johnson gets a takedown into half guard.
Teixeira is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Teixeira looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Johnson pushes past his half guard into mount!
Teixeira is trying to reverse the position but instead Johnson has taken his back - oops!
Teixeira might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Teixeira rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Teixeira is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Johnson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Johnson's back!

Johnson tries to break free.

Teixeira working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Johnson is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Teixeira has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Johnson taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Shifty Teixeira!
