PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Larry Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Zarch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Larry Shaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Zarch!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw tries to bum rush Zarch with a series of wild strikes but Zarch uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Zarch gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Shaw counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Zarch has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shaw can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Shaw might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Zarch can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shaw controls the pace.

Zarch is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Shaw connects with a couple of short punches.

Zarch had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Shaw defends it easily.

Shaw tries to free his leg and advance position but Zarch is retaining full guard.

Zarch escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shaw gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Shaw has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Shaw thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Shaw is stalling in the full guard.
Shaw cracks Zarch with a solid left hand.

Zarch is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shaw defends well.

Zarch isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Shaw stacks Zarch on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Shaw!

Shaw remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Zarch tries to improve position but can't.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zarch regains half guard.

Shaw is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Zarch is just riding it out for now. Shaw eventually gives up the hold.
Shaw perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Shaw shoots in and gets a takedown into Zarch's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shaw postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Shaw in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Zarch tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Shaw!
