The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matters throws a right and a left that both miss.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Van Der Klaas tries to move to mount but Matters blocks the move with his legs.

Van Der Klaas swings around for an armbar but Matters sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Van Der Klaas's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Matters counters with a series of strikes that practically lifts Van Der Klaas off his feet! He tumbles backwards, his head bouncing off the mat - Matters follows up with more strikes before the ref can step in but Van Der Klaas was out before he hit the floor.
