PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Max Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jr Uking Salasal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jr Uking Salasal!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salasal tries to bum rush Thomas with a series of wild strikes but Thomas uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Salasal is trying to push Thomas away but Thomas has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Thomas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Thomas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Salasal shoots in looking for a takedown but Thomas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Salasal's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Salasal looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Thomas has picked Salasal up and slammed him! Salasal can't keep hold of the triangle and Thomas manages to pass to side control!

Salasal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thomas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Thomas has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Salasal gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Thomas is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Thomas sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Salasal's guard.

Thomas decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Thomas feints and as Salasal raises his hands in defense, Thomas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thomas stays in close to Salasal's body and controls the position.
Thomas pushes down on Salasal's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Thomas is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Thomas uses his free foot to push down on Salasal's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Salasal.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Thomas seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Salasal for as long as he can get away with.

Thomas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Thomas has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Salasal.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Thomas is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Thomas has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Thomas punches the canvas rather than the man.
What can Salasal do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Thomas's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Salasal shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Thomas pinned against the cage. Thomas gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Thomas in particular looking to stall.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Thomas has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Thomas fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Salasal to the ground. Thomas is now in Salasal's guard.

Thomas decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Salasal, up you get!
Salasal stuffs the takedown attempt from Thomas. Thomas gets slowly back to his feet.

Thomas bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Thomas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Salasal knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
