The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magnum tries to clinch up.

The referee asks Hoffman politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hoffman prefers to stall for the moment though.

Magnum is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hoffman asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Magnum wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Hoffman.
You get the feeling that Magnum really doesn't like being in this position too much.
BOOM! Hoffman connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Hoffman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hoffman sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Hoffman is trying to drag Magnum to the mat but Magnum just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Magnum moves out of range of the strikes.
Magnum tries to land a leg kick but Hoffman saw it coming and moves away.
Micah Magnum is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Hoffman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Magnum pinned against the cage. Magnum gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Magnum tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Hoffman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The fighters circle momentarily. Hoffman darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Hoffman misses with a hook. Magnum ducked under it nicely.

Micah Magnum showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hoffman misses with an uppercut. Magnum saw that one coming.

and Hoffman counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Hoffman is trying to control the action in half guard but Magnum is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Hoffman is nestled in close to Magnum, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Magnum can do anything to dispel that myth.

Magnum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hoffman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hoffman lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

The cut above Micah Magnum's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Hoffman has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Magnum's face.

Magnum is rocked!

Micah Magnum's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Micah Magnum's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
