PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Doug Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cassiano Victor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marshall comes into the arena with The Wicker Man -- Iron Maiden blaring out of the sound system. Victor has chosen Enigma - Hello and welcome as his entrance music. Cassiano Victor told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Doug Marshall!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cassiano Victor!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick by Marshall misses
and Victor counters with a nice uppercut.
Victor throws a lazy uppercut
and Marshall counters with a good low kick that Victor was not able to check.
Victor bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Marshall's head backwards.
Victor throws out a loose jab but Marshall uses good head movement to avoid it.
The fighters circling - Victor throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Victor swings widly with a right hand
and Marshall counters with a right hand to the body.
Victor swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Victor misses with an uppercut
and Marshall counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Victor throws a right hand that misses
and Marshall counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Cassiano Victor has been cut.
Marshall throws a nice outside leg kick.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Marshall.
Marshall throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Victor.
Marshall throws a head kick that misses.
Doug Marshall is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Marshall throws a low kick but Victor moves out of range easily.
Marshall swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Victor, as that shot connected.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Victor uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Marshall.
Victor blocks a low kick nicely.

Victor shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Victor stops Marshall from standing up.
Victor looking to sit in guard and control but Marshall gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marshall postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Marshall is looking to work some ground and pound but Victor has wrist control.
Marshall stopping the sweep attempt from Victor.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Victor utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Victor preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Victor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Victor is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Victor looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Marshall's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Victor keeping full guard, as Marshall tries to pass.
Marshall throwing strikes from guard but Victor blocks nicely.
Victor bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marshall's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Victor controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Marshall wants to stand but Victor is controlling the position.
Marshall tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Marshall looking to control.
Victor trying to control but Marshall is working from the bottom.
Marshall looking to hit a scissor sweep but Victor is one step ahead there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Victor throws a poor cross that misses
and Marshall counters with a nice low kick that buckles Victor's knee momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Doug Marshall dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Cassiano Victor's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Marshall uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Victor throws a right hand that misses
and Marshall counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Marshall tries to work over Victor's front leg with a kick but Victor checks it.
Victor is looking to clinch.
Victor stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Marshall.
Good standup being displayed there by Victor as he connects with a hook.
Victor shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Marshall pinned against the cage. Marshall gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Victor throws a poor cross that misses
and Marshall counters with a head kick that crumples his opponent - he's in a world of trouble! Marshall looks at the referee who does nothing so Marshall lands a crushing right that sends Victor to the floor! This time the ref steps in to end the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Doug Marshall!
Doug Marshall retains his welterweight title!
