PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bam Bam Beastly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiro Sakurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beastly comes to the cage accompanied by Wu Tang Clan - Protect ya neck!. Hiro Sakurai told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bam Bam Beastly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Hiro Sakurai!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakurai misses with a jab to the body
and Beastly counters with a straight right hand.
Sakurai scores with a nice head shot.
Sakurai stuffs the takedown attempt from Beastly. Beastly gets slowly back to his feet.
Sakurai swings widly with a right hand
enabling Beastly to counter with a crisp jab.
Beastly uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sakurai.
Sakurai lands with a right hand.
Sakurai lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Beastly is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A big right from Sakurai misses.
Beastly fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sakurai misses with a jab to the body

and Beastly counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Sakurai is looking to improve his position.
Sakurai gets full guard.
Sakurai is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Sakurai not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sakurai preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Beastly trying to control the position from guard on top but Sakurai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Beastly is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sakurai tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Beastly takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Sakurai looks to throw the jab but Beastly is out of range.
Sakurai slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.


It looks like Bam Bam Beastly has been cut.
Sakurai with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Sakurai works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Beastly blocks a jab.
Sakurai walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Beastly checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Sakurai throws a poor cross that misses
and Beastly counters with a left to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sakurai uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Beastly has time to react.
Hiro Sakurai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sakurai.
Sakurai tries to land a front kick but Beastly steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Sakurai works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Sakurai misses with a right hand
and Beastly counters with a left to the body.

Sakurai changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Beastly looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Beastly tries to improve position but can't.
Sakurai wants to control but Beastly is keeping him busy.
Beastly gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sakurai is trying to control. Beastly wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Still in half guard, Sakurai seems content to control.
Beastly is trying to get back to full guard.
Sakurai controlling the action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Beastly tries to roll over but Sakurai keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hiro Sakurai dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Bam Bam Beastly's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Beastly rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Sakurai counters with a nice uppercut.
Sakurai tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Beastly was well out of range. Poor timing from Sakurai.
Sakurai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Beastly stuffs the takedown attempt from Sakurai. Sakurai gets slowly back to his feet.
Nice jab there from Sakurai.
Sakurai misses with a right hand
enabling Beastly to counter with a crisp jab.
Beastly throws a lazy uppercut
and Sakurai counters with a nice uppercut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sakurai fails to land with a series of punches.
Beastly checks a low kick from Sakurai.
Sakurai stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Sakurai just misses with a punch to the body.
Sakurai moves forwards but Beastly connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Sakurai motions for Beastly to come forward. Sakurai throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Sakurai uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Beastly takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Whack! Sakurai lands a heavy head kick that drops Beastly. The ref tackles Sakurai to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Beastly was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Hiro Sakurai!
