The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hashimoto displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Benavidez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hashimoto defends it nicely.
Hashimoto misses with a left hand

and Benavidez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hashimoto's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Benavidez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hashimoto is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Benavidez, into his guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hashimoto is looking to stand up but Benavidez won't let him.

Benavidez has gone for a leg lock! Hashimoto slips out almost immediately though and dives into Benavidez's guard.

Hashimoto got a little sloppy there for a moment and Benavidez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hashimoto has managed to get both his arms back between Benavidez's legs - danger averted.
Hashimoto would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Benavidez wants to sweep but no luck.

Benavidez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hashimoto's waist but Hashimoto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Benavidez off to one side.

Benavidez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hashimoto sprawls well. Hashimoto wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Benavidez gets slowly back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters circling - Hashimoto throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
