PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ignatius J (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and William McDonough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McDonough has chosen The Beast by Tech N9ne as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ignatius J!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, William McDonough!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
J throws an ugly left hook that misses
and McDonough counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
McDonough lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as J backs up against the cage.
McDonough tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but J was well out of range. Poor timing from McDonough.
William McDonough seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McDonough scores with a jab to the body.

The fight stays on the outside here - J looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
J doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
McDonough connects with a right hand. J shakes it off.

McDonough is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
J pulls McDonough in close to his closed guard and prevents McDonough from doing any damage or advancing position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

J bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McDonough's guard.
McDonough is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

McDonough is staying active underneath J, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Ignatius J dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


J misses with a hook to the body
and McDonough counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps J thinking.
J looks to land a right hand but McDonough moved out of range.
J changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McDonough tries to avoid it but J manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McDonough to the ground. McDonough escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McDonough misses with a body shot.
A left lands for McDonough.
McDonough throws a sloppy body shot
and J cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

J shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McDonough manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

J slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

McDonough takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

McDonough is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so J is just riding it out for now. McDonough eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

McDonough thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ignatius J.
I think J has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
