PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Frankie Edgar has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Frankie Edgar seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frankie Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frank Parker!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paul Aken and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parker fails with the takedown

and Edgar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Edgar is stalling in the full guard.
Parker wants to control the position but Edgar says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Edgar prevents Parker from standing back up.
Parker won't allow Edgar to pass to mount.
Edgar is figuring out what he wants to do next.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Edgar wants to control from the top but Parker keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Frankie Edgar.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Edgar has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Edgar is fighting to break Parker's control of his arms but Parker is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Edgar wants to stand and escape but instead Parker has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Parker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Parker tries to free his leg and advance position but Edgar is retaining full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Parker might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Edgar kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

No joy there for Parker, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Frankie Edgar will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Parker lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Edgar at a distance.
Edgar ducks under a wild hook from Parker.

Parker shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Parker showed some decent athleticism there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Let's hope that Parker has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
