Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Almeida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Almeida gets caught napping as Rua dives in and scores a takedown. Almeida manages to retain guard.

Almeida escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rua gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rua stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Almeida swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Almeida looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Rua got a little sloppy there for a moment and Almeida has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rua has managed to get both his arms back between Almeida's legs - danger averted.
Rua stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Almeida swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rua trying to control the position from guard on top but Almeida is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Almeida escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rua gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Almeida is looking for a triangle but Rua pushes his legs off easily.
Rua throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Rua slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rua cracks Almeida with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Rua in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Rua has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Almeida is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Rua yanks on the arm and Almeida is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Rua.
