The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scurlock misses with a two punch combination.
Birchmont throws a shot from downtown. Scurlock moves away and avoids it.

Scurlock uses his free foot to push down on Birchmont's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Birchmont.

Scurlock looking to control but Birchmont is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Scurlock has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Birchmont's face.

Scurlock has hold of Birchmont's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Birchmont manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
