PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ohiru Hultquist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ohiru Hultquist was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eddie Wong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ohiru Hultquist!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hultquist rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wong moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hultquist looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hultquist swings widly with a right hand
and Wong counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Wong fails with a takedown attempt.
Wong misses with a hook
and Hultquist counters with a stiff right hand.
Hultquist misses with a right hand
and Wong counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Hultquist throws a poor cross that misses

and Wong counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Hultquist's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Wong tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Wong gets through Hultquist's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Hultquist wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Wong has him pressed against the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hultquist has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Hultquist is trying to push Wong away but Wong has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hultquist wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Wong's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wong moves in looking to clinch but Hultquist pushes him off.
Hultquist misses with a two punch combination.
Wong tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hultquist swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Wong is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Wong counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Wong's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Some wild striking there from Hultquist.
Wong shoots in looking for a takedown but Hultquist manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wong's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Wong. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wong uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hultquist.
Ohiru Hultquist seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wong throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hultquist blocks it with crossed arms.

The crowd cheers as Hultquist lands an impressive looking overhand right. Wong doesn't seem phased though.

Wong keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hultquist's efforts to push away.
Wong prevents Hultquist from breaking the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Wong.
Wong digs a right hand underneath Hultquist's ribcage. Hultquist let out a lung full of air as it connected.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wong is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Wong slowing the pace effectively.
Wong creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Wong is pushing Hultquist up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ohiru Hultquist showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
