PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Umberto Eco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rebaldo Louza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Umberto Eco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rebaldo Louza!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Louza swats away the attempt to clinch by Eco.
Eco tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Louza shoots for a double leg takedown but Eco sprawls well. He's pushed Louza's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Louza closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Eco to the mat! Eco manages to get full guard.
Eco is trying to control the position but Louza postures up.
Louza advances position into side control!

Louza goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Eco rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Louza's guard! Nice work there by Eco!
Eco knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Louza on the ground.
Louza looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Eco wants to control from the top but Louza keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Louza has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Eco can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Louza wants to sweep here but Eco controlling him for the moment.

Eco has gone for a leg lock! Louza slips out almost immediately though and dives into Eco's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Eco is on top in guard.

Louza tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Louza not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Eco trying to control the position from guard on top but Louza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Louza can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Eco controls the pace.
Eco has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Umberto Eco just wasn't active enough.
Louza dives in and grabs Eco's left leg, looking for a takedown. Eco pushes down on Louza's head and hops out.
Eco misses with a head kick.

Umberto Eco has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rebaldo Louza.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Louza misses with an uppercut. Eco saw that one coming.

Eco forces Louza back against the cage and clinches.
Louza tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Eco smiles and moves away.
Louza shoots in looking for a takedown but Eco manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Louza's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Louza blocks a head kick by Eco.

Louza clinches.
Eco throws a knee to the head but misses.
Eco using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Louza has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Eco landing knees to the body.
Eco is trying to break the clinch but Louza has him pressed against the cage.
Eco tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Eco is breathing heavily.
Louza jumps guard but Eco stands there with Louza around his waist. Louza gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Louza tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Eco just stands there and leans against the cage.
Eco tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Louza tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Eco looking to throw knees to the head but Louza is blocking nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Umberto Eco will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Eco gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Louza sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Eco's guard.
Eco is staying active underneath Louza, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Louza is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Eco is just riding it out for now. Louza eventually gives up the hold.
Eco is in trouble now - Louza has advanced to mount!
Eco is trying desperately to improve position.
Eco in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Louza looking to control but Eco is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Louza is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Eco to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Eco shrugs it off.

Louza goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Eco is on top in guard.

Louza is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Eco is aware though and is defending well.

You can see the frustration on Louza's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Eco throws an elbow but Louza slips to the side and avoids it well.
Louza can't do much from the bottom here.
Louza is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Eco is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Louza is squirming around, avoiding Eco's attempts to control the action.
Louza is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Eco thowing shots but they're missing.
Eco tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Louza tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Eco looking to control but Louza is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Eco blocks Louza's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Louza tries to reverse the position but Eco maintains control.
Eco can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Louza is looking to escape.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Louza is trying to escape the mount.
Eco lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Eco trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Eco sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Louza is looking to get to half guard.
Eco landing strikes from the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Rebaldo Louza will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Well, if Louza is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Eco moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Louza pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Eco is keeping the position for now.
Louza passes Eco's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Eco has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Louza is working away from the top position though.
Louza is looking to take a break and control but Eco is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Eco bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Rebaldo Louza has got the better of the ground game so far.

Rebaldo Louza comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Louza has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
