PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robinson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Jaws theme remix kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Dean Robinson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Powers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Robinson!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Powers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Frank Powers.

Powers closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Robinson's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Powers throws a strike aimed at the side of Robinson's head but Robinson avoids it well.
Robinson parries the strikes from Powers easily there. Powers is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Robinson to escape.

Powers tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Powers has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Robinson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Robinson there as he acknowledges the shot.

Robinson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Powers looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Powers looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Powers!

Powers connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Robinson some visible discomfort.

BOOM! Robinson connects with a massive shot to the dome!


It looks like Frank Powers has been cut.

Dean Robinson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Robinson can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Powers wants to control from the top but Robinson keeps moving.

Powers has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Robinson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dean Robinson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Robinson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
