The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hayashida throws a leg kick that misses.

and Hayashida counters with a good, hard body kick but Herman shrugs it off.
Peewee Herman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight stays on the outside here - Hayashida looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Herman can do anything to dispel that myth.

Heihachi Hayashida has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hayashida shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Herman sprawls well. Herman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hayashida gets slowly back to his feet.

Hayashida changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Herman tries to avoid it but Hayashida manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Herman to the ground. Herman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Herman swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Hayashida is looking to break free of the clinch but Herman has double underhooks.
Hayashida jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Herman walks away with a smile on his face. Hayashida gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Herman displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hayashida.
