Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hattori Chiba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Choo!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Choo shoots and misses

and Chiba counters with a takedown into side control.

Chiba swings around for an armbar but Choo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Chiba's guard.
Choo slips nicely into half guard.
Choo is looking to take a break and control but Chiba is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Choo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Choo content to control rather than advance.

Choo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chiba is just riding it out for now. Choo eventually gives up the hold.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Choo is trying to work for a kimura but Chiba is defending well.
Choo trying to mount his opponent but Chiba defends it.
Still in half guard, Choo seems content to control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Daniel Choo.

Chiba looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Chiba postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Choo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Chiba, into his guard.

Chiba drops back, looking for a kneebar! Choo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Choo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Choo!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Choo wants to control but Chiba is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Chiba goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Choo has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Chiba but great work by Choo.
Chiba is not content to let Choo control the position.

Choo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Chiba kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Choo controls the position from side control.
Daniel Choo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chiba tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Daniel Choo has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Choo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Chiba counters with a shoot takedown. Choo fights it but they end up in guard.
Chiba wants to pass the guard but Choo is keeping the position.
Choo is trying to keep Chiba in close.

Choo is adopting a defensive guard.
Choo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hattori Chiba overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Choo has a closed guard, preventing Chiba from standing up.

Choo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chiba defends well.
Hattori Chiba is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Choo controls Chiba momentarily but Chiba frees himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hattori Chiba showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chiba has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
