PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rusty Trombone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mohammad El Sayed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). El Sayed comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Stand Up by Trapt kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Mohammad El Sayed has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rusty Trombone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mohammad El Sayed!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Trombone.
El Sayed throws an off balance right hand
and Trombone counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
El Sayed looks to throw the jab but Trombone is out of range.

Trombone bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on El Sayed's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
El Sayed is pushing Trombone's head away, looking to escape. Trombone manages to hold on to the position though.
Trombone misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Trombone controls the position.
Trombone lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear El Sayed down.
El Sayed is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Trombone is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Trombone has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
El Sayed pushes Trombone away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Trombone gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Trombone tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

El Sayed is trying to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
El Sayed is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Trombone is controlling him well.

Trombone is staying tight to El Sayed's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Trombone is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down El Sayed's shoulder. That is not cool.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
El Sayed takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
El Sayed is letting Trombone control him for a moment.

Trombone's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trombone fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The referee asks Trombone politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Trombone prefers to stall for the moment though.
El Sayed regains half guard, as Trombone was trying to land strikes.

El Sayed tries to kick Trombone off but Trombone keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Well, if Trombone is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rusty Trombone.
Trombone scores with a jab. El Sayed acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Nice straight punches there by Trombone. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Trombone.
Mohammad El Sayed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
El Sayed misses with a left hand
and Trombone counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Trombone fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and El Sayed has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Trombone slips a jab and a cross from El Sayed.
Trombone scores with a jab. El Sayed acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Trombone. El Sayed shrugs it off though.
El Sayed looks gassed!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Trombone lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.


El Sayed is rocked!
El Sayed throws a poor cross that misses
and Trombone counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
El Sayed is still on wobbly legs! Can Trombone finish him?
Trombone gets in close and tags El Sayed with a short punch that almost sends El Sayed to the mat! Oh El Sayed is in big trouble! He turns his back on Trombone, trying to create some distance but Trombone rushes him, striking wildly and El Sayed goes down! The referee tackles Trombone into the cage to end the fight! Trombone is one violent man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rusty Trombone!
