PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dean Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlisson Rousseff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perry comes to the cage accompanied by Ready To Go by Republica. Rousseff has chosen Mail Man Blues - Sleepy John Estes as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dean Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlisson Rousseff!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry misses with a takedown
and Rousseff counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Perry has his takedown stuffed

and Rousseff counters with a takedown into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Charlisson Rousseff.
Rousseff throws an off balance right hand

and Perry counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rousseff is staying active underneath Perry, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Rousseff keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rousseff can do anything to dispel that myth.
Perry throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dean Perry.
Rousseff throws an off balance right hand
and Perry cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Rousseff digs a good body shot into Perry's ribs.
Rousseff misses the jab.
Rousseff throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Perry counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Rousseff tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rousseff lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Perry!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Perry is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Perry regains half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rousseff is taking a breather. Perry says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charlisson Rousseff dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Perry fails with the takedown
and Rousseff counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Perry takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Rousseff rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Perry decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rousseff's guard.
Rousseff looking for a sweep. Not yet Rousseff, not yet.
Rousseff is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Perry passes Rousseff's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rousseff is controlling Perry's trapped leg to prevent Perry from advancing to side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Charlisson Rousseff.
Rousseff fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Perry manages to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rousseff doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Perry counters with a takedown into side control.
Dean Perry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rousseff wants to control but Perry postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rousseff is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Perry tries to advance to mount but can't.
Rousseff is holding Perry down, trying to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Charlisson Rousseff wasn't active enough on the ground.
Rousseff swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Perry counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Perry postures up in Rousseff's guard and throws a big left but Rousseff blocks it.
Perry postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rousseff looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Charlisson Rousseff.
Rousseff swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Perry counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dean Perry dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Perry doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Rousseff tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Perry swivels and escapes.
Rousseff misses with an uppercut
and Perry counters with a straight right hand.
Rousseff throws a predictable looking body shot
letting Perry counter with a right hand.
Perry gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Rousseff counters with a stiff right hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rousseff throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rousseff throws a series of punches but Perry moves out of range.
Rousseff misses with a series of wild punches.
Perry misses with a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Perry cracks Rousseff with an open hand slap.
Rousseff waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Perry.

Perry shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Perry was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rousseff can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rousseff holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Perry tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Perry goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rousseff turns into him and now he's in Perry's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rousseff sitting in guard here, content to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Charlisson Rousseff comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rousseff has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
