PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dixon Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dixon Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scott Marshall!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marshall darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Cox is looking to improve his position.
Cox has hold of Marshall's hands but Marshall slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Cox trying to hold on to Marshall's head to control him but Marshall postures up.
Cox is trying to get back to full guard.
Cox is doing well to control the position and prevent Marshall from advancing to side control.
Marshall working the head and body with strikes.
Marshall wants to pass to mount but Cox is defending the position.

Marshall looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Marshall wants to stand but Cox has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cox throws an overhand right that lands on Marshall's shoulder, as Marshall tries to avoid the shot.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cox.
Marshall tries to improve position but can't.

Cox looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Cox tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Cox advances to full mount.
Marshall is squirming around, avoiding Cox's attempts to control the action.
Cox controlling from mount.
Marshall is looking to get to half guard.
Cox tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cox looking to control but Marshall is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Cox avoids the attempt from Marshall to control.

Cox working for a guillotine from mount but Marshall is in no mood to give up.
Marshall wants to control but Cox is having none of it.
Cox controlling from mount.
Marshall bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Cox is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cox wants to pass to mount but Marshall is defending the position.
Marshall wants to control but Cox is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Cox is taking a breather. Marshall says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marshall has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cox is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marshall is trying to stand back up but Cox is controlling him
Marshall tries to roll over but Cox keeps him under control.
Cox trying to advance position but Marshall counters by regaining guard.
Marshall not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Marshall misses with a takedown attempt

and Cox decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Marshall's guard.
Cox is breathing heavily.
Cox is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Marshall trying to control the position.
Cox preventing the sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Marshall is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Marshall tries to roll over but Cox keeps him under control.

Marshall trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Cox manages to pass to mount!

Cox wants to take Marshall's back here but Marshall is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Cox has control of Marshall's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Marshall regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Cox is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Marshall has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Cox can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Marshall is looking to escape.
Marshall tries to reverse the position but Cox maintains control.
Cox wants to control the pace but Marshall is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Marshall is wriggling around trying to escape.

Cox goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Marshall turns into him and now he's in Cox's guard.
Marshall thows a big elbow that misses.
Cox is trying to control the position but Marshall postures up.

Marshall works over Cox with some ground and pound from guard.
Cox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Marshall trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cox keeping moving, preventing Marshall from controlling successfully.
Cox not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Cox working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Marshall doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Marshall manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

and Cox counters with a single leg into guard. Marshall didn't expect that.
Cox stands and throws Marshall's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Cox is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Marshall knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Marshall tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cox wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Marshall gets back to half guard.

Cox is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Marshall is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Cox pulls his head out easily.
Cox wants to take a breather but Marshall is having none of it.
Cox controlling the action here.
Marshall is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dixon Cox dominated that second round.
That's time! Cox's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Marshall swats away the attempt to clinch by Cox.

Marshall wants to hit a switch here but Cox passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Marshall there!

Marshall's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Marshall is squirming around, avoiding Cox's attempts to control the action.

Cox goes for an armbar but Marshall turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Marshall.

Cox is looking for a triangle but Marshall pushes his legs off easily.
Cox is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Cox looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Marshall must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cox controls Marshall momentarily but Marshall frees himself.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dixon Cox just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Cox gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Marshall keeps control of Cox as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Scott Marshall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Marshall has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Cox clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Dixon Cox overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cox tries to break free.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dixon Cox showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Cox has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
