Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Len Orton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cross comes to the cage accompanied by The American Dream Song. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Len Orton!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Chad Campbell and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orton fails with the takedown
and Cross cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Orton feints a jab promting Cross to slip. Orton then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Cross slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Cross cracks Orton with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Orton throws a chopping leg kick but Cross manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
A low kick from Cross is predictable there
and Orton counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Cross swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Orton misses with an uppercut
and Cross connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Orton misses with a right hand
and Cross counters with a nice body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Orton getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Cross throws an ugly left hook that misses
enabling Orton to counter with a crisp jab.

Orton shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Orton showed some decent athleticism there.
Cross blocking the ground and pound attempt from Orton.
Orton throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Orton not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Orton content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Cross is not content to let Orton control the position.
Orton with the ground and pound but Cross uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Cross pulls Orton in close to prevent any damage.

Len Orton has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Cross throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters circling - Orton throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Orton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cross as he jumps to the side.
Orton throws a body punch but Cross moves out of range.
Orton misses with a right hand

and Cross counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cross.
Orton wants to sweep but no luck.
Orton is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Orton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Len Orton will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Cross blocks a jab.

Cross gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Orton to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Orton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Orton won't allow Cross to sweep him here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cross is on top in guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Orton holds on and takes a little breather.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Orton swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Cross counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Cross lands with a thumping leg kick.
Orton tests Cross's chin there with a solid looking shot.

and Cross counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cross lands with a shot to the body.
Orton shoots and misses

and Cross counters with a nice double leg into side control. Orton won't be happy with that.

Cross with the ground and pound but Orton regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Cross takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Cross missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Cross takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
David Cross overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cross is looking to take a break and control but Orton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cross is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Orton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Cross is looking to pass Orton's guard but actually Orton recovers to full guard.

Cross throws a strike but Orton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Cross not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cross keeping moving, preventing Orton from controlling successfully.
Orton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Orton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Orton seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Orton is trying to control the action in half guard but Cross is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cross tries to roll over but Orton keeps him under control.
Orton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cross does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Len Orton hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Orton clobbers Cross with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Cross checks the leg kick.
Cross thows a left - swing and a miss!
Cross lands with a hook. Orton tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Cross throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Cross with a lazy takedown attempt
and Orton counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Cross thinking.

Orton throws a nice inside leg kick.
Orton cracks a nice hook into Cross's ribs.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Orton scores with a jab to the body.

Orton shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Orton wants to get back to his feet.
Orton thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Orton is looking to take a break and control but Cross is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cross looking for submissions off his back.
Orton is taking a breather. Cross says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Orton landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Orton not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Cross wants to get back to full guard.
Orton is trying to control the action in half guard but Cross is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Cross tries to get to full guard but Orton has control of the leg.
Orton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Orton is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Len Orton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Orton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
