PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Janis Lusis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saint George (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Janis Lusis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Saint George!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Paul Tew and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A leg kick checked by George.
George throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Lusis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
George has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lusis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
George has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Lusis is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Lusis displaying some good clinch control by pressing George up against the cage.
Lusis stops a takedown attempt from George.
Janis Lusis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saint George.
Lusis lands a nice knee to the body.
George tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lusis smiles and moves away.
Lusis tries to score with a low kick but George moves his leg out of the way.

George on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Lusis. Lusis obviously looking to wear him down.
Lusis moves in looking to clinch but George pushes him off.
George misses with a right hand
and Lusis counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Janis Lusis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
George avoids the body shot from Lusis.
Lusis throws a solid leg kick but George takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Lusis.
Lusis swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Lusis tries to clinch there but George circles away.
Lusis tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and George is able to avoid easily.
George connects with a looping right hand.
Lusis scores with a hook.
George checks the leg kick nicely there.
Lusis goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

George misses with a few strikes there.
Lusis lands with a shot to the body.
Lusis feints and then cracks George's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow George down.
Lusis connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Lusis throws a low kick but George moves out of range easily.
Lusis lands with a kick to the temple. George shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

George takes a swing at Lusis's ribcage but misses.
Lusis moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
No joy there for George, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

A slapping leg kick lands for Lusis.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lusis throws a lazy uppercut
and George counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


George throws a left and a right that both miss
and Lusis counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Lusis swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
George takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
George closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Lusis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lusis scores with a leg kick.

George throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lusis's waist but Lusis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing George off to one side.
George cracks a nice hook into Lusis's ribs.
Lusis attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Lusis misses with a leg kick
and George counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Lusis lands with a thumping leg kick.
Janis Lusis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
George takes a shot right to the bread basket.

George misses with a wild combination.
Lusis scores with a nice strike.
George moves out of range as Lusis strikes.
Lusis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lusis dodges the punch combination from George.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lusis swings widly with a right hand

and George counters with a nice double leg into guard.
George tries to free his leg and advance position but Lusis is retaining full guard.
George won't allow Lusis to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lusis has control of George's left arm, preventing George from doing any damage.

George drops back looking for a leg! Lusis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lusis manages to kick George off! George jumps back into Lusis's guard.
George pushes down on Lusis's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lusis keeps control of the position for the meantime.
George throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Janis Lusis dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

George lands a two punch combo.
Lusis takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Lusis swings away with a body shot that misses

and George counters with a nice double leg into guard.
George postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

George drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and George jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Lusis on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Lusis tries to get out of the position.

George trying to control the position from guard on top but Lusis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
George is fighting to break Lusis's control of his arms but Lusis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Lusis avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Saint George has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lusis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Lusis looking to control but George passes into half guard.
Lusis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for George on the ground.
Lusis is pressing down on George's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

George drops back looking for a leg! Lusis is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lusis manages to kick George off! George jumps back into Lusis's guard.

George drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lusis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now George has Lusis in his guard.

George is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Lusis rolls with it to try and escape but George cranks on the arm and Lusis is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
