Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Bosse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergey Verhnevolsky!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bosse wants to free his trapped foot but Verhnevolsky is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Bosse seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Bosse fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Verhnevolsky, pushing him back against the cage.

Bosse shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Steve Bosse just wasn't active enough.
Verhnevolsky throws a lazy head kick

and Bosse counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bosse looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Verhnevolsky with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Verhnevolsky tries to keep at a distance but Bosse has taken the fight into the clinch.
Bosse is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Verhnevolsky gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Bosse stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Verhnevolsky to get to his feet.
Bosse goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Bosse's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bosse throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Verhnevolsky was covering up waiting for the punch and Bosse finishes the takedown easily into guard.

You can see the frustration on Verhnevolsky's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Verhnevolsky is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Bosse is staying active.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Verhnevolsky has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bosse is working away from the top position though.

Bosse slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

You can see the frustration on Verhnevolsky's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Verhnevolsky tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Verhnevolsky is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Steve Bosse overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Verhnevolsky is wriggling around trying to escape.

Bosse avoids the attempt from Verhnevolsky to control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Verhnevolsky might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bosse kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Bosse takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Verhnevolsky wants to hold on but Bosse pushes him away.
